Anderson has helped people hear better for 33 years
FAIRFIELD — Ellen Anderson’s job is to give people the gift of better hearing.
She founded Ellen Anderson M.A. Hearing Services in 1980 in Fairfield. She is an audiologist whose practice has seen a wide variety of clients, from newborns to people more than 100 years old.
“And everyone wants to be treated well and that’s what we strive to do,” she said.
Part of her practice involves testing people for hearing loss. The tests reveal if the loss is best treated medically or with hearing aids. Modern technology has made digital hearing aids available and is improving devices that make it easier for people to hear telephones and televisions.
Hearing Services also does such things as tests, and treats for tinnitus.
Anderson’s career has its roots in her childhood in Maine and New Hampshire. Her mother had hearing problems.
“I kind of grew up with hearing loss in my family,” Anderson said. “It intrigued me.”
She moved to the West Coast because of marriage and ended up living in Napa. But she turned to Fairfield in 1980 when she started her own business. Fairfield didn’t have much competition in the audiology field and had more people in the surrounding area than Napa, she said.
“You have to look at your demographics to see where you’ll be successful,” Anderson said.
She made the right choice. Not only has her Fairfield practice lasted for 33 years, she has expanded to other locations. She has offices on Oliver Road in Fairfield, Merchant Street in Vacaville, Redwood Street in Vallejo and North Fifth Street in Rio Vista.
Hearing Services is affiliated with the Audigy Group, which assists hearing care providers across the nation with independent practices.
Anderson also has helped fledgling audiologists by offering internships. She’s helped others get a start in the profession.
The secret of her business’s success?
“I attribute this to the service that is given,” Anderson said. “I have excellent employees and we stress good patient service, good communication.”
She had another thanks to give.
“I just feel very grateful to the people of Solano County for supporting us for 33 years,” Anderson said.
