SAN FRANCISCO— Oakland police say one of the city’s most wanted fugitives was arrested at a San Francisco steak house where the suspected gang leader was spotted by an off-duty officer.
Authorities say 20-year-old Ronnie Flenaugh was taken into custody around 10 p.m. Thursday at Ruth’s Chris Steak House, where he was eating with 11 other people.
Flenaugh was spotted by Oakland police Officer Ernesto Leyva Jr., who was there celebrating his wife’s birthday. He called for more officers who helped him arrest Flenaugh on robbery and weapons violations.
Police say Flenaugh had been wanted for several gang-related killings and robberies. They hope his arrest will end a wave of retaliatory shootings.
Hours before Flenaugh’s arrest, officers had raided a Las Vegas home where they believed they would find him.
