SACRAMENTO — Sacramento County sheriff’s detectives say they no longer believe an early morning shooting that left one man dead and another injured was a random attack.
The survivor had told the authorities that the two men were walking a dog before 4 a.m. in Orangevale, about 20 miles northeast of Sacramento, when they were shot by two other men.
Sgt. Lisa Bowman said in a statement that the story was a lie, and that detectives believe the man who was killed knew his assailant.
Bowman said the shooting remains under investigation and that detectives are not prepared to release a suspect description or a motive.
