HAYWARD — Firefighters say a 75-year-old woman was killed in an early morning house fire in Hayward.

Fire Capt. Don Nicholson tells KRON-TV that the fire was reported at 1 a.m. Friday in the 24-thousand block of Townsend Avenue. He says access to the home was blocked because the fire was coming out the door and windows throughout the home.

He says a couple was able to make it out of the house, but the wife’s elderly aunt, who was in a wheelchair, was not.

Firefighters say the cause of the fire was likely an electrical problem.
