SAN JOSE — Police have arrested a man in the death of a 19-year-old San Jose State University student who was gunned down while riding in a car.
San Jose Police spokesman Jason Dwyer said Johnny Lozano was booked Thursday on charges of murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Dwyer says Lozano was stopped Wednesday evening by an officer in the gang suppression unit.
Authorities say Kimberly Chico was hit by random gunfire early Saturday morning as the car she was a passenger in pulled up to an intersection downtown.
Family members told NBC Bay Area that she had been out celebrating her last night with a friend visiting from San Diego.
Police say Chico’s killing is the city’s 30th homicide this year.
