APPLE VALLEY — Authorities in San Bernardino County say 11 people were injured – five of them seriously – after a highway crash involving nine vehicles.
Sheriff’s officials tell the San Bernardino Sun that the Wednesday afternoon crash in Apple Valley will leave parts of Highway 18 and all of Navajo Road closed for several hours.
The five seriously injured were taken to hospitals by four helicopters. Six other people had injuries ranging from minor to moderate.
The crash occurred on a sparsely populated highway dotted with restaurants and retail outlets in Apple Valley, 40 miles north of San Bernardino and 90 miles northeast of Los Angeles.
The nine vehicles in the crash included a Jeep, a pick-up truck and several compact cars, though the cause was not immediately clear.
