FAIRFIELD — The Sac-Joaquin Section released its first football wins list of the season and surprising Will C. Wood finds itself tied for 10th.
The Wildcats, who have one-point wins over Vanden and Benicia and a three-point victory over Napa, are tied with Capital Christian of the Golden Empire League for 10th with six wins each and 25 wins by their opponents. To qualify, teams must have at least two wins in their league, which Wood has already accomplished.
The wins list will be used to seed the upcoming Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs. The top two finishers in each of the section’s 14 largest leagues automatically qualify with the next top 34 teams also qualifying.
The brackets will then be seeded with the 16 largest schools in Division I, the next 16 largest in Division II with the same formula used for divisions III and IV.
The top 12 small-school teams will go into divisions V and VI, six largest schools into the former, the remainder into the latter.
Vacaville is next among area large school teams at 53rd (four wins, 27 opponents’ wins, two league wins), followed by Vanden, which is tied for 62nd (four wins, 28 opponents’ wins, one league win).
Essentially eliminated are Fairfield (tied for 101st), Armijo (tied for 109th) and Rodriguez (tied for 113th).
Rio Vista, meanwhile, is first among small schools with seven wins and 17 opponents’ wins, though it has a bye remaining on its schedule.
Vacaville Christian is 16th, though only one win out of the top 12.
