The school year’s under way and so are fall sports.
Quite often results from those sports appear in the pages of the Daily Republic.
And too often, for whatever reason, they don’t.
This column is attempt to change that. As a kid playing sports, I remember what it meant to see my name in print as my coaches strained to find some way to get me mentioned.
I appreciate the effort they made. Decades later, the process is still the same. For results to get into the Daily Republic, we need to hear from a coach or a league/team representative.
High school and Solano Community College results will appear in the next print edition. Results for youth sports, for the most part, will appear on Sundays, the one edition of the week large enough to run what is usually an extremely long write-up.
How does one submit high school or SCC results? Phone the Daily Republic sports department at 425-4646, ext. 8 the day of the game/match. Our deadline for fall sports is 10 p.m., and with most events being held in the afternoon, there’s no reason to call that late.
This goes for both varsity and junior varsity sports. Every year we field numerous phone calls complaining about how we ignore this or that team when in fact the coach makes no effort to get us the results. We will make a greater attempt to track down missing varsity results. But if reports on your son’s or daughter’s team aren’t appearing, talk to the coach. If that proves unsatisfactory, go to the athletic director.
How does one submit youth results? Have the coach or a team/league representative email them to me at email@example.com, preferably by Thursday night so they can be assembled on Friday.
We’ve had great success over the years hearing from the Fairfield-Suisun Youth Soccer League, Solano Soccer Club and NorthBay Elite Futbol Club, though I’m sure we haven’t heard from each team in those organizations.
For whatever reason, we have rarely heard from youth football organizations over the years. The Fairfield Falcons have committed to getting us results this season. We’d also love to hear from Solano Warriors, Solano Mustangs, Suisun City Titans and Travis Vikings as well.
It’s not that complicated. For starters, tell us the name of your team, organization, division (competition level), final score and where the game was played. Then give us some highlights from the game.
There you have it. We want to hear from you and if you want to get your results in the paper, we need to hear from you.
Have a great season!
