Vikings top Wildcats on wild pitches

VACAVILLE — Jared Vitug and Eric Robles scored on wild pitches in the bottom of the seventh inning and the Vanden High baseball team grabbed a 6-5 nonleague victory over Will C. Wood, Saturday.

The Vikings (1-1) began the game with four runs in the first, matching the four scored by the Wildcats in the top of the inning.

Vanden pitcher Justin Pimentel gave up five runs (four earned) in four innings of work, yielding eight hits with two strikeouts and four walks.

Robles, who had a double in three at-bats, earned the victory with three innings in relief, surrendering three hits and two walks.

Alejandro Lara, Casey Ledford and Pablo Delgado Rodriguez had the only other hits of the day for Vanden. Lara, Logan Spencer and Delgado Rodriguez had one RBI each.

The Vikings host Rodriguez at 4 p.m., Monday.

Vikings finish well at relays

SACRAMENTO — The Vanden High track and field team had nine top finishes in the Steve Jones Relays, Saturday.

Javin White finished second in the boys 110-yard high hurdles, while finishing third in the high jump.

Isaiah Creal was second in the high jump, as well as the long jump.

Creal was also part of the 800 sprint medley relay team, which placed second as well as the 4×100 team, which also placed second.

The girls’ 800 sprint relay team with members Mikaela York, Ayana Black, Malia Bryant and Alex Jenks finished first.

York, Black, Bryant and Rachel Carr were also members of the 4×200 relay, finishing second.

Kristen Privette finished second in the girls high jump.

The Vikings travel to Bethel, Wednesday.
