Vikings nail down SCAC girls tennis title
FAIRFIELD — After four years the Solano County Athletic Conference girls tennis title finds its way back to Vanden.
Vanden (15-0, 12-0 SCAC) clinched its first title since 2007 with an emphatic 8-1 victory over Bethel Tuesday at Vanden.
“I am very happy for the girls,” Vanden coach Stan Lewis said. “Last year we had the worst season in 10 years and we talked all last year about how this year would be different. I am especially happy for the seniors on the team.”
The Vikings were led by Emily Lewis who kicked things off with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Anabelle Molina at No. 1 singles. The Vikings continued the sweep of the singles brackets with wins from Dani Ponce, Brenda Louie, Rhiannon Jensen, Jaleena Hust and Aishlyn Webb.
In doubles action, the team of Britney Marquez and Tulsi Patel defeated Nancy Nguyen and Kelly Hoang 6-3, 6-2 in No. 1. doubles. Nguyen and Hoang were previously undefeated in two years.Rakha Rangan and Alicia Flaherty also pulled out a 7-6 (11-9), 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles.
Vanden travel to Benicia on Thursday.
Vacaville 9, Fairfield 0: At Vacaville, Rachel Cox at No. 2 singles and the team of Taylor Wynn and Emily Sanchez at No. 3 doubles won three games in a losing cause for the Falcons.
Fairfield entertains Armijo on Tuesday.

sweep past Armijo
FAIRFIELD — Chris Boyle and Menam Mugatash each netted two goals, while goalie Patrick Pua had six saves and three steals to lift the Fairfield High boys water polo team to a 7-2 Monticello Empire League victory over host Armijo on Tuesday.
Falcons coach Charles Fahlstrom credited his squad’s defense for securing the win. “Any team, when you can limit them to two goals means you’re controlling the game defensively. That was the case today. Our offense today wasn’t smooth at times, but we scored more than enough goals to win the game.”
Also scoring for Fairfield (12-10, 2-1 MEL) were Nick Wullenweber, Andrew Lyon-Lee and Raymond Welch one each.
Fairfield won the JV game 11-9.
The Falcons host Valley Christian of San Jose on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Fairfield girls 10, Armijo 0: At Armijo, Samantha Pashenee poured in three goals as the Falcons (2-8, 1-2 MEL) blanked the Indians.
Jennifer Ofeldt, Dana Meyer, Sam Johnson added two goals each for Fairfield, while Serena Salomon scored one. Goalie Ashley Walker blocked four shots.
Fairfield is at Vintage on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

Mustangs draw with Panthers
VALLEJO — The Rodriguez High girls golf team played to a 253-253 draw against Benicia Tuesday on the Mare Island golf course.
Taylor Quilling shot a 43 to lead the Mustangs (8-2-1) while Angela Dumdumaya shot a 45. Ashlee Spanheimer contributed with a 53 while Sacha Legmay and Taylor Trette shot a 54 and 58 respectively.
Rodriguez travels to Chardonnay Country Club to face American Canyon today.

Falcons run BVC shutout streak to 16
PITTSBURG — Megan O’Dwyer’s two goals keyed the Solano Community College soccer team to a 5-0 route of Los Medanos Tuesday at Pittsburg.
Alyssa Orme got the Falcons (5-5-1, 4-0 BVC) on the board first in the 30th minute finishing a Yvette Correa assist in the 30th minute. The goal gave the Falcons a 1-0 halftime lead.
Megan O’Dwyer opened the scoring in the second half with a strike that was set up by Janelle Richards in the 53rd minute. Sandy Garcia converted a penalty kick three minutes later to push the lead to 3.
O’Dwyer’s second goal came in the 60th minute on a pass from Alexa Gonzalez.
Alexis Meyers converted a free kick in the 85th minute to give Solano its final goal.
Briana Scholtens and Ashley Yoell combined for the 16th consecutive shutout in Bay Valley Conference play. Scholtens and Yoell each had eight saves apiece.
Solano hosts Napa College for the first time Friday at 3:30 p.m.
