VCS falls in section soccer final

ELK GROVE — The Vacaville Christian High boys soccer team fell to now three-time defending Sac-Joaquin Section Division VI champion Encino 1-0 in the title game Saturday.

Encino scored in the 11th minute to grab the lead, though Braedan Pilcher and Brock Gustafson did their part, putting five shots on goal each. The last was Pilcher’s in the final minutes, though it was saved.

Goalie Steven Gloudeman kept the Falcons (14-3-1) in the game all afternoon, making 14 saves in VCS’ first-ever trip to the section championship game.

 

Kickboxing

MODESTO — Three local kickboxers out of BBDC Fight & Fitness in Fairfield placed first Saturday the California Blackbelt Tournament.

Tessa Devlin took first place in the boys 13-15 age group with a 2-0 record, while Justin Manital was first in the boys 14-16 group, also with a 2-0 mark.

Lindsay Axvig wrapped up the first-place trio with a win in the adult women’s 135-145 pound weight class, also finishing 2-0.
