Vanden girls win another SCAC tennis title

FAIRFIELD — The Vanden High girls tennis team clinched its second straight Solano County Athletic Conference title Thursday after a 6-3 win over Benicia.

It was the Vikings’ 29th straight SCAC win, improving this year’s squad to 13-0 in league and 14-0 overall.

Vanden split the six singles matches with the Panthers and swept all three doubles matches, with Juliana Mikolaicik and Alicia Flaherty rallying to win at No. 1 doubles 4-6, 6-0, 10-6.

The Vikings wrap up SCAC play next week with a home game against Vallejo on Senior Day Tuesday and the finale at Fairfield Thursday.

VCS shuts out Golden Sierra 2-0
GARDEN VALLEY — The Vacaville Christian High boys soccer team shutout Golden Sierra 2-0 in the Sierra Delta League Thursday.
The Falcons' (6-7-1, 5-3-1 SDL) Matt Burnett scored in the 11th minute off a pass from Brad Baum. Then in the 33rd minute, Sean Patton completed a pass to Jeremy Rico for the second goal.
Connor James contributed on defense in stopping the Grizzlies and Stephen Gloudeman made seven saves in goal.
Vacaville Christian plays Highlands in Sacramento Tuesday.

 Fairfield girls fall on road to Benicia
VALLEJO — The Fairfield High girls water polo team lost to Benicia 8-2 in Monticello Empire League action Thursday.
The Falcons' (4-10, 1-5 MEL) Dalal Muqatash and Lesley Martinez each scored a goal and Elizabeth Villenas had two steals, while Nicole Pua had one steal. Goalie Ashley Walker made five blocks in the first half and Michelle finished it up with four blocks.
Fairfield hosts American Canyon Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Fairfield boys 16, Benicia 1: At Vallejo, the Falcons' (14-8, 5-1 SCAC) Nick Wullenweber led the team with nine goals. Eduardo Alvarado and Andre Lavoie each scored three goals, and Simon Vandelle scored one goal. Cody Meyer had 12 saves in the goal.
The JV boys lost 6-3 in overtime. Elijah Livingston scored two goals, a buzzer beating game tying goal as the fourth quarter expired. Corey Williams had a goal. Goalie Joel Sardenga had nine saves.

Vikings rally, but fall to Panthers
FAIRFIELD — The Vanden High girls volleyball suffered a 25-16, 25-16, 10-25, 25-19 Solano County Athletic Conference loss to Benicia Thursday.
The Vikings' (11-4, 10-3 SCAC) Jewels Putman went 14 for 14 at the service line with one ace, adding 12 kills, one block and 14 digs. Kamra Jackson 15 for 15 at the line with an ace, seven kills and eight digs.
Meghan Herout 11 for 12 serving with an ace, four kills and 11 digs and Rochelle Roberts finished 12 for 14 serving with two aces, three blocks, 10 digs and 24 assists for Vanden.
"We played extremely well," coach Cindy Scolavino said. "We had a slow start but rallied back . . . (Putman) really held the team together."
The Vikings' JV team (11-2) won 24-26, 25-16, 15-9. Meckensie Murphy went 6 for 7 serving and nine kills, Mia Satterfield served 8 for 8 at the line with 12 kills and eight blocks.
