VALLEJO — The Vanden High girls basketball team moved within one game of clinching a tie for its 13th straight league title with a 93-26 Solano County Athletic Conference vanquishing of Vallejo on Thursday.
Mariah led five players in double figures for the Vikings (21-3, 7-0 SCAC) with 17 points, followed by Adrianna Jones with 14, Kayla Belk with 13 and Kiana Moore and Aleseana Whitney with 12.
Whitney added 15 rebounds, Moore nine steals and Toni Taylor 12 assists.
While the balance was nice, Vanden coach Allison Johnson was most pleased with her team’s 15 of 20 night at the foul line.
“That’s something I haven’t been happy with, our free throw percentage,” she said. “Tonight we did a decent job, 15 for 20.”
The Vikings can clinch a tie for the SCAC championship on Tuesday at Benicia.
Vanden rolled to a 79-12 win in the JV game. Monet Lewis led the Vikings (15-7, 7-0 SCAC) with 28 points, while Brittney Livingston had 20 and Macie Saunders 10.
Benicia 61, Fairfield 43: At Benicia, the Falcons (5-19, 2-5 SCAC) got 14 points each from Shawntanea and Casara Vaugh.
Fairfield plays Tuesday at home against Bethel.
