FAIRFIELD — The Vanden High boys basketball team defeated Kennedy in the consolation bracket of the Falcon Holiday Classic, 54-50, Saturday.
The Vikings (5-5) found themselves down in the first three quarters of the game, entering the fourth trailing by 10.
In the fourth, the Vikings outscored Kennedy 18-4.
Vanden did not let the Cougars score one field goal in the final period, only allowing four free throws.
“We just emphasized help-defense,” Vikings coach Micheal Holloway said. “The kids accepted criticism and were able to play solid defense.”
Vanden plays in the consolation championship game against Antelope at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
American Canyon JV 79, Vanden JV 57: At Dixon, the Vikings (2-8) leading scorer was Phoenix Shackelford with 18 points, while Jordan Williams added 13. Shackelford was named to the all-tournament team.
Vanden will travel to Fresno to face Clovis West on Jan. 10.

Solano tops Chabot at Gervasoni Classic
CUPERTINO — The Solano Community College women’s basketball team had five players score in double figures, as it won its first round game of the Mike Gervasoni Memorial Classic at De Anza College, defeating Chabot College 82-60.
Denisha Lundy led the Falcons (8-3) with 15 points, four rebounds and seven assists, while Christen Voyles also had 15 points and three boards.
Solano coach Matt Borchert said Laura Lawson had a great game as she put up a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
Taylor Hamilton had 10 points, four boards, four assists and five steals, while Ariel Clay added 11 points along with five rebounds.
“We moved the ball well and shot it from the three well – especially Denisha (Lundy) and Christen (Voyles),” Borchert said.
The Falcons play College of Merced in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Armijo rallies for third win of season
DIXON — The Armijo High Girls basketball team rallied in the second half to take home its third win of the season and a seventh-place finish at the Dixon Ram Jam, Saturday with a 38-29 victory over Woodland.
Trailing 15-14 at the break, Armijo outscored Woodland 16-10 in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Aniyah Ruffin led the Indians with 12 points, while Jada Williams added five. Passion Ware led the team with 15 rebounds and sophomore Destiny Blueford was named to the all-tournament team.
Armijo returns to action after the new year at the Vacaville tournament, Jan. 2-4.
Bishop O’Dowd JV 43, Vanden JV 37: At Fremont, the Vikings (8-3) fell to the Dragons, forcing Vanden into the third-place game of the Irvington Winter Classic on Saturday.
Vanden was led by Aryel Moreland who had
11 points, while Krystal Gonzalez and Macie Saunders had nine points apiece.
The Vikings were 6 of 24 from the free throw line.
Vanden plays for third place 6 p.m. Monday at against a yet to be determined team.
