AMERICAN CANYON — The Vanden High boys soccer team clinched its first league title in school history with a 1-0 Solano County Athletic Conference blanking of American Canyon, Monday.
After a scoreless first half, the Vikings (13-0-1, 11-0-1 SCAC) scored the game-winner in the final minute when Yousef Rezogui found the net.
Goalie Antonio Ramirez made five saves in goal for Vanden.
Vanden won the JV match 2-1, overcoming a 1-0 halftime deficit. Juan Espinoza scored on an indirect free kick after a touch by Alex Niccoli before a Joey Mesa crossing pass after a breakaway deflected in off an American Canyon defender for an own goal.
Patrick Endo helped keep the Vikings in the game with solid defensive play.
The Viking entertain Bethel on Wednesday.
Armijo JV 8, Wood 0: At Fairfield, the Indian led 3-0 at the half before breaking it open with five second-half goals despite being down a player because of a red card.
Armijo got goals from Eric Solorio off a Derek Wadsworth corner kick, by Eduardo Gomez on a breakaway pass by Isaias Arteaga and on a penalty kick.
The Indians added second-half goals by Julian Angel, Trevor Davis, Ricky Haber, Daniel Reyes and Solorio with Solorio, Haber and Mitchel Hosbisch assisting.
Patrick Dolan and Maylank Malhotra created pressure up high, while Drake Delorefice and Reyes controlled the middle and the tempo of the game.
Armijo plays Vintage at Napa’s Memorial Stadium on Wednesday before closing the season by hosting Rodriguez on Monday.
Highlands 9, VCS 0: At Vacaville, the Falcons (4-6-3, 2-5-3 SDL) suffered a shutout in Sierra Delta League play.
Goalie Stephen Gloudeman had 11 saves at the half, holding the Scots to three goals. The Falcons were down five players, three of which were starters, due to injury or illness.
The next match for Vacaville Christian is Thursday at 3:30 as it travels to Rio Vista.
