FAIRFIELD — It’s been awhile, but the Vanden High boys soccer team has a crucial game in late September.
Believe it or not.
The Vikings have stormed out to a 6-0 start, 4-0 in the Solano County Athletic Conference, including a 3-2 win over four-time SCAC champion Benicia on Sept. 10 at Gammon Field.
The conference’s two top squads square off again on Wednesday, this time in Benicia.
The Vikings also have to be wary of vastly improved Fairfield, which has gone from a winless 2012 campaign to a 2-1-1 start in the SCAC, 2-3-1 overall.
There’s plenty more going on this week. Here’s a look:
The Rodriguez boys soccer team is looking for its first win since rejoining the Monticello Empire League last fall, going 0-19-0 in the MEL over the last two seasons. The Mustangs will try to break the string at Armijo.
Crosstown rivals also clash in golf when Fairfield tangles with Vanden at Green Tree Golf Club.
The Solano Community College women’s soccer kicks off Bay Valley Conference play at Contra Costa.
Vanden travels to Benicia for a key SCAC volleyball clash.
The first MEL girls golf tournament of the season is at Paradise Valley.
The Solano volleyball team continues BVC play with a key home match against Napa Valley.
The Armijo and Vacaville cross country teams meet halfway at Lagoon Valley Park.
Fairfield and Armijo clash in boys and girls water polo in the Indians’ pool.
Vanden hosts Napa in an interesting SCAC-MEL football matchup.
While the Rodriguez football team looks for its first win when it entertains Oakland, Armijo looks for its first points of the season at Antelope.
In JC women’s soccer, Solano has a key BVC home match with Napa Valley.
The Armijo cross country team joins Vacaville and Wood in the Stanford Invitational.
