FAIRFIELD — The unbeaten Vanden High boys soccer team can all but officially lock up its first league title in school history when defending champion Benicia, the second place team in the Solano County Athletic Conference, comes to George A. Gammon Field on Wednesday.
The Vikings (11-0-0, 9-0-0 SCAC) have already beaten the Panthers (9-2-2, 6-2-1) twice this season and two wins this week means the green and gold would need just a tie in their remaining four games to clinch the crown.
There’s lots more going on this week as well:
Before it tangles with Benicia, Vanden must get by vastly improved Fairfield in a home boys soccer match.
Rodriguez and Armijo meet in boys and girls water polo in the latter’s home pool.
The Solano Community College women’s soccer team welcomes Folsom Lake to town for the first time.
The Monticello Empire League and SCAC hold their postseason golf tournaments with top finishers advancing to Sac-Joaquin Section competition.
The Solano volleyball team looks to rebound from its first Bay Valley Conference loss – a tough five-setter against Alameda – when it travels to Contra Costa
Serve tosses and lobs may be an adventure when Armijo plays at Rodriguez in girls tennis.
The Vanden girls tennis team gets one last crack at likely eventual SCAC champ Benicia.
Vanden makes the long trip to Fairfield to play the Falcons in volleyball
The Vanden football team hosts defending SCAC champ American Canyon for homecoming in what may be a showdown for this year’s title.
Vacaville travels to Armijo for the 95th edition of the oldest continuous football rivalry in Solano County. The teams first met in 1901 and have played every fall since 1926.
The Solano volleyball and women’s soccer teams finish their week by entertaining Mendocino and Contra Costa, respectively.
The Fairfield girls water polo team hosts a mini tournament.
The Rodriguez, Vanden, Vacaville volleyball teams head across the delta to play in the Stockton Classic.
