The Week Ahead: Solano softball team opens season

FAIRFIELD — The Solano Community College softball team opens its season and crosstown rivalries hit the mat to highlight this week’s sports action.

The Falcons, in search of their ninth straight Bay Valley Conference title, start by hosting San Mateo, Tuesday.

In Wednesday’s wrestling competition, Rodriguez looks to hold onto sole possession of second place in the Monticello Empire League when it travels to Armijo, while Vanden entertains Fairfield.

Here’s a look at the rest of the week:

Tuesday

The Rodriguez boys basketball team looks for its 18th straight win, which would set a school record, when it plays at Napa. In other boys games, Fairfield is at Vallejo, Armijo travels to Vacaville and Vanden plays at Benicia.

In girls games, Rodriguez is one game back of Napa and hosts the Indians. There are also Vallejo at Fairfield, Vacaville at Armijo and Benicia at Vanden.

Wednesday

The Solano men’s and women’s basketball teams host Mendocino on Police Activities League Appreciation Night.

Thursday

The Solano baseball team travels to San Mateo.

Boys basketball has Fairfield hosting American Canyon and Vanden looking to avenge its only SCAC loss when it entertains Vallejo.

On the girls side, Fairfield is at American Canyon, while Vanden heads to Vallejo.

Friday

The two-day Sac-Joaquin Section girls wrestling tournament gets underway at McNair High of Stockton.

The Solano basketball squads travel to Los Medanos of Pittsburg.

In the evening’s girls basketball games, Wood is at Armijo and Vintage at Rodriguez, while Rodriguez is at Vintage and Armijo at Wood in the boys games.

Saturday

The Solano baseball and softball teams each have home games with the former hosting San Mateo and the latter entertaining Cosumnes River.

The Sac-Joaquin Section team duals wrestling tournament is at Lincoln of Stockton with Vacaville looking for its fifth straight title, eighth in the last nine years, 15th in the last 17 years and 19th overall.
