The Week Ahead: Ready or not, sports year’s set to start

FAIRFIELD — Are you ready for some football?

How about cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, volleyball and water polo?

City prep teams and those from Solano Community College begin the 2014-15 school year with fall sports starting competition on Friday.

Here’s a look at an abbreviated first week:


The city football season kicks off with Armijo heading to San Rafael.

The futbol season opens with Armijo hosting the All-City boys soccer tournament, which also runs Saturday and Monday. Monticello Empire League rivals Rodriguez and Armjio meet, while Fairfield hosts Wood in a nonleague game.

Fairfield’s boys water polo team opens its season at the Napa tournament.

Rodriguez’s cross country squads run down Highway 12 to compete in the Lodi Flame Invitational.

In JC play, the Solano Community College women’s soccer team entertains longtime rival Cosumnes River, while the Falcons volleyball squad takes part in the College of Alameda Classic.


The All-City boys soccer team continues at Armijo with Rodriguez taking on Vanden, Fairfield battling Armijo and Fairfield playing Vanden to wrap things up.

Fairfield’s boys water polo team concludes play in the Napa tournament.
