The Week Ahead: MEL, SCAC hoops all-stars meet

FAIRFIELD — Nothing says spring like . . . high school basketball.

Winter finally makes its farewell when the Monticello Empire League and Solano County Athletic Conference hold their annual girls and boys basketball all-star games.

The contests are scheduled for Thursday at Fairfield’s Ronald D. Thompson Gymnasium, the girls playing at 6 p.m., the boys at 7:30 p.m.

There’s plenty of spring stuff going on this week. Here’s a look:

Monday

In badminton, Vacaville is at Armijo and Rodriguez at Davis.

The Fairfield softball team looks for its second win of the season when it hosts Dixon in a nonleague game.

Tuesday

The Solano Community College softball team looks to extend its 23-game winning streak when it plays a doubleheader at Napa Valley.

Meanwhile, the Falcons baseball squad hosts Yuba.

Prep baseball features Wood at Armijo, Bethel at Fairfield, American Canyon at Vanden and Napa at Rodriguez.

In boys golf, Armijo plays Vacaville at Green Tree, Rodriguez takes on VIntage at Rancho Solano and Vanden battles Bethel at Blue Rock.

Vanden has a key boys tennis showdown at American Canyon, the two having split their earlier two meetings. The other match has Fairfield hosting Vallejo.

Crosstown rivals meet in girls soccer when Armijo travels to Rodriguez. Other games have Vallejo at Vanden and Fairfield at American Canyon.

Swimming action includes Armijo at Napa and Rodriguez at Vacaville.

Wednesday

Armijo heads to Napa for a key boys tennis showdown. The other match has Rodriguez at Wood.

In prep badminton, Armijo heads to Wood, while Rodriguez entertains Napa.

Prep softball features Armijo at Wood, Napa at Rodriguez, Bethel at Fairfield and American Canyon at Vanden.

Thursday

The Rodriguez swim teams host Armijo in a battle of crosstown rivals.

Also in the pool, Solano hosts the Bay Valley Conference swimming championships. The event runs through Saturday.

The Solano softball and baseball teams hit the road, the former for a doubleheader at Contra Costa of San Pablo, the latter for a single game at Yuba of Marysville.

In prep baseball, Armijo is at Wood, Fairfield at Bethel, Vanden at American Canyon and Rodriguez at Napa.

Boys golf has Vanden meeting Fairfield at Green Tree, Armijo playing Vintage at Silverado and Rodriguez taking on Wood at Cypress Lakes.

The Vanden girls soccer team looks to hold onto second place in the SCAC when it hosts American Canyon, while Armijo continues its quest for a playoff berth when it travels to Napa. In other games, Wood heads to Rodriguez and Fairfield entertains Bethel.

Boys tennis concludes the week with Fairfield at Bethel, Benicia at Vanden and Vacaville at Armijo.

Friday

Solano wraps up its three-game series with Yuba by hosting the 49ers.

The top two MEL badminton teams square off when Rodriguez plays at Armijo.

The Rodriguez and Armijo softball teams also meet at the latter’s home field.

In other games, Vanden is at SCAC-leading Benicia, while Fairfield heads to American Canyon.

Boys tennis has Napa at Rodriguez and Vintage at Wood.

The Rodriguez track teams are scheduled to compete in the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut.

Saturday

The Fairfield, Vanden and Rodriguez track teams will participate in the Fred Faucet Invitational at Vallejo, while the Vikings are Mustangs will also send competitors to the Woody Wilson Invitational at U.C. Davis

Armijo’s baseball team has a home nonleague with Salesian.
