Solano Mudcats fall in title game of Auburn Classic

AUBURN — The Solano Mudcats collegiate baseball team fell 5-2 to the Auburn Wildcats in the championship game of the Auburn Classic, Saturday.

Brenden Farney paced the Mudcats (30-11) at the plate, finishing 3 for 4 with singles, while Nick Spini and Farney drove in the two runs with singles in the third inning.

Jared Carr took the loss for Solano, pitching 5 2-3 innings while walking six and striking out six with four earned runs. Auburn scored a run in the first inning and never trailed.

The Mudcats reached the title game after defeating Berkovich 14-6 earlier in the day, pushing across 12 runs over the first three innings and finishing with 17 hits.

Solano broke out early, with Spini, Mark Foley and Hudson Bishop each driving in runs with doubles in the first inning. Spini finished with three extra-base hits in the game.

Gordie Clary got the win on the mound for the Mudcats, allowing six runs over six innings, striking out two and walking three.
