SCC women rout Los Medanos, stay perfect in BVC

ROCKVILLE — The Solano Community College womens basketball team extended its Bay Valley Conference win streak as it defeated Los Medanos 97-55, Saturday.

The defense for the Falcons (14-4, 5-0) created 21 turnovers in the first half – leading them to a 53-29 lead after one.

“We played really good defense in the first half,” Solano coach Matt Borchert said. “Good ball movement and passing got us some easy baskets.”

Denisha Lundy led the Falcons in scoring with 24 points and four assists. Taylor Hamilton added 11 points, five steals and seven assists, while Justice Robinson had 13 points, five rebounds and two steals. Ariel Clay finished with 12 points and three boards.

SCC travels to Marin for a BVC match on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Vanden survives another thriller

STOCKTON — The Vanden High boys basketball team ended its non-conference half of the season with a 56-53 victory over Stagg, Saturday.

The Vikings (8-7) were up 12-8 after the first period and held the lead for the rest of the game. The Delta Kings were able to narrow the gap by the end of the game, outscoring Vanden 17-10 in the fourth.

Jihad Woods was two rebounds short of a double-double as he led the Vikings with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Thomas Avent was two assists short of a double-double – adding 11 points and eight assists.

In JV action, the Vikings (4-11) defeated Stagg 49-42.

Anthony Anchante led the team in scoring with 18 points, while Phoenix Schackleford added 12.

Vanden opens Solano County Athletic Conference play as it hosts Benicia, Thursday.

Knights fall on road to Esparto

ESPARTO — The Buckingham Charter girls basketball team fell to Esparto 41-34, Saturday.

Channing Ward and Crissa Williams led the Knights (4-8) with six points apiece, while Juliann Gardiner added 4 points.

Buckingham opens Sacramento Metro Athletic League play as it hosts Wilton Christian at Vaca Pena, Friday.

Indians successful at Granada tournament

LIVERMORE — The Armijo High wrestling team had ten top-three finishers in the Granada JV Tournament, Saturday.

Mario Palacios (113, 3-0), Armando Azpeitia (140, 3-0) and Jordan Sanderfur (heavyweight, 3-0) finished the tournament with first place finishes.

Matthew Mendoza (103, 2-1), Carlos Forcadilla (120, 2-1) and Charlie Ellington (145, 2-1) all finished in second place, while Sean Manason (126, 3-1), Leanord Yalong (138, 3-1), Colby Hatfield (140, 3-1) and Isaiah Dolcee (160, 3-1) took home third place finishes.

The Indians host Vacaville, Wednesday.
