VISALIA — The Solano Community College women’s basketball team defeated Porterville, 74-69, in the consolation quarterfinals of the Tom Gilcrest Invitational, Friday.
“It was a back-and-forth game,” coach Matt Borchert said.
After being down, the Falcons (3-2) fought back to tie it 34-34 at the half.
“It took us a while to get into rhythm,” Borchert said, adding “we played really solid defense and had more rebounding in the second half.”
Ariel Clay led the Falcons with 16, while Taylor Hamilton added 13 points. Audrey Jones scored 12 and Justice Robinson had eight.
Solano moves onto the consolation semifinals against Sacramento City College, Saturday.

Armijo falls to Vallejo
VALLEJO — The Armijo High boys basketball team fell to Vallejo 65-55 in its opener, Friday.
The Apaches jumped out to a 18-7 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, outscoring the Indians (0-1) 39-14 in the first half.
Armijo’s leading scorer was Bryce Lumpkins with 13, while Jordan Allen had 10.
The JV team fell, 38-32.
The Indian’s look for their first win, traveling to Vanden, Saturday.
Rodriguez 64, St. Joseph’s 50: At Alameda, after being outscored 14-3 in the first quarter, the Mustangs (2-1) scored 21 in the second, but could not make up the deficit in the Island Classic.
“We played exceptionally well tonight. It was a good team effort,” coach Nate Rankin said.
Rodriguez’s leading scorer was Kyle Williams with 11, while Rashad Abraham followed with nine.
The Mustangs play for third place against Skyline, Saturday.
Jesuit JV 79, Fairfield JV 43: At Carmichael, the Falcons (1-1) fell, with G’Angelo Jenkins leading the way with six point, and Joshua Stanford right behind with five.
They will play St. Mary’s of Stockton, Saturday.
