ROCKVILLE — Inching closer to the end of the regular season, the Solano Community College soccer team got a big win in its home finale Wednesday, topping College of Marin 2-1 in Bay Valley Conference play.

The victory sets up a crucial match Friday at Mendocino for the conference title.

The Falcons (11-5-3, 9-0-2 BVC) trail the Eagles (10-0-1 BVC) by just two points in the conference standings.

In Tuesday’s win, Solano took an early lead and never looked back.

At the 4-minute mark, Tara Cooley converted on a corner kick from Alexis Myers for a 1-0 lead that lasted into intermission.

Five minutes into second half – the 49th minute – Megan O’Dwyer scored on a pass from Gracie Correa to make it 2-0.

Marin scored in injury time to get within 2-1.

Falcons goalkeeper Katie Wright finished with eight saves.

Solano travels to Ukiah for the 3 p.m. match on Friday, which will determine the conference champion and whether the Falcons are guaranteed a playoff spot.

“Right now, we’re not a lock for playoffs,” said SCC coach Jeff Cardinal.

The Falcons have won the last five BVC championships, winning last season’s on the final day with a win at Napa Valley College.
