FAIRFIELD — The Rodriguez High boys basketball team opened its own Holiday Stampede with an easy 79-49 win over Elsie Allen of Santa Rosa, Thursday.
The Mustangs (8-1) raced out to a 43-23 lead at the half and never looked back.
“It was the defense, and the running of our offense in the first and second periods,” Mustangs coach Nate Rankin said. “That played a big part.”
Courtlund Mclean led Rodriguez with 19 points, Kyle Williams added 14 and his brother Keanu Williams scored 10.
In other action, Thursday, Riordan topped Wooster (Reno) 76-29, San Rafael clipped Mt. Diablo 58-52 and Damonte Ranch (Reno) got by Benicia 68-60.
Friday’s schedule has Mt. Diablo facing Benicia at 9 a.m., Wooster plays Elsie Allen at 10:30 a.m., San Rafael counters Damonte Ranch at noon and Rodriguez plays Riordan at 1:30 p.m.
The tournament wraps up Saturday, with games scheduled to begin as the same times as Friday.

Armijo falls in 1st round of Dixon Ram Jam
DIXON — The Armijo High girls basketball team fell to Bear Creek of Stockton 50-31 in the opening round of the Dixon Ram Jam Invitational, Thursday.
The Indians (2-5) only trailed 16-13 after the opening quarter, but managed just 15 over the next two while Bear Creek score 28.
Kira Wilson led Armijo with nine points, while Aniyah Ruffin scored eight.
The Indians play at 11:30 a.m. against Del Campo, Friday.
IN the JV portion of the tournament, the girls lost, while the boys won.
