Rodriguez looking to start postseason run

FAIRFIELD — The Rodriguez High boys soccer team has its sight squarely set on a deep run in the Sac Joaquin Section Division III playoffs as it opens up postseason play today, traveling to Antelope to face Antelope High.

“I am excited about it,” Rodriguez coach Dale Daniel said. “We have a good shot coming out of the SCAC, and I am hoping to get out of the first round.”

The Mustangs (7-5-8, 5-3-7 SCAC) will be looking for some top-notch play from their midfield.

“From talking to other coaches, Antelope has a strong midfield,” Daniel said. “We need to prevent their midfield from controlling the game.”

Despite having not seen Antelope play, Daniel is feeling confident when looking at the score differential from the season. Antelope sits at a -10 goal differential while Rodriguez enjoys a +10.

“They were outscored this year,” he said. “They can definitely be scored on.”

Overall, Daniel is looking for an entire team effort from the Mustangs.

“Defensively we need to step up and not make any mental mistakes,” said Daniel. “When you get to the playoffs, teams take advantage of mental mistakes. I am looking for the entire team to step up. This needs to be a team effort.”
