Rodriguez hosts Lou Encalada Invitational

FAIRFIELD — The Rodriguez High wrestling team will host competitors from 31 schools today during the sixth annual Lou Encalada Invitational.

Action begins at 9 a.m., with coach Mike Clarkston hoping to get the finals underway around 4 p.m.

“This is a good chance for us to get extra guys on the mat,” Clarkston said Friday night. “There are going to be a bunch of strong schools, with some good wrestlers.”

The Mustangs have finished second the last two years, with Bella Vista back as the two-time defending.

Hamilton, Harper lead Falcons past 49ers

MARYSVILLE — The Solano Community College women’s basketball team picked up an easy 65-40 Bay Valley Conference win over Yuba College Friday.

Taylor Hamilton and Ariella Harper led the Falcons (10-8, 7-1 BVC) with 12 points each.

Solano plays host to Laney College (6-1 BVC) in a battle for first place on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

Solano falls to Yuba in BVC action

MARYSVILLE — The Solano Community College men’s basketball team trailed by 10 points at the half and never caught up in dropping a 71-59 Bay Valley Conference decision to Yuba on Friday.

The Falcons (7-12, 2-7 BVC) were led by Lequan Gomes with 15 points, while Tim Mohr and Corey Doran were next with eight.

Solano entertains Alameda on Wednesday.

Bulldogs rally past Wildcats for 58-50 win

VACAVILLE — Vacaville High outscored host Wood 24-13 in the fourth quarter to earn a 58-50 Monticello Empire League girls basketball win on Friday.

“They made like 10 free throws in the fourth quarter while we were (fouling to get the ball back),” Wildcats coach Bob Fernandez said. That was the difference. They made their free throws in the fourth quarter and we didn’t come down and make any baskets.”

Capriana Christian paced the Bulldogs (10-10, 2-3 MEL) with 18 points, while Erin Partain added 14. Reana Hardin topped Wood (8-14, 1-4 MEL) with 17 and Tichina Crocker tossed in nine.

Vacaville won the JV game 62-37 with the Wildcats (4-18, 0-5 MEL) getting 17 points from Ashanti Randle and seven from Aira Shankles.

Wood hosts entertains Vintage on Tuesday, while Vacaville entertains Armijo.
