Rio Vista football team improves to 4-0

RIO VISTA — Four weeks, four wins.

The Rio Vista High football team defeated Brookside Christian 56-34 Friday night on the strength of three 100-yard rushers.

Javis Blalock rushed for 227 and a touchdown on nine carries. He scored on an 84-yard run and a 38-yard pass from Austin Stevens.

Tanner Webster rushed for 167 yards on 16 carries, scoring on a 80-yard touchdown run.

Charlie Chres rushed for 156 yards on 24 carries, scoring twice on 1-yard dives and once on the receiving end of a 5-yard pass from Stevens.

Rodriguez JV 26, Fairfield 14: At Rodriguez, the Mustangs (1-2) opened a 26-0 lead and held on to beat the Falcons (0-3).

DeAndre Scott scored twice on runs (5, 7) for Rodriguez, while Torian Barner caught a 50-yard pass from quarterback Miles Saunders for another TD. The Mustangs’ first score was a 50-yard run by Mikey Norris.

DeAndre Clark was singled out on Rodriguez’s defense, collecting one interception.

Dammani Tuinney scored Fairfield’s first TD on a 20-yard blocked punt return and Malachi Dawson returned an interception 60 yards for the other score. Dawson also caught a 2-pt. conversion from QB Michael Russo.

Benicia JV 22, Armijo 20: At Benicia, the Indians (1-2) suffered a heartbreaker they lost on a safety with 1 minute, 42 seconds to play.

“How tough was the loss? It was real tough,” Armijo coach Willie York said.

DeMario Penton scored on a 5-yard run for the Indians, and Tony Perry also reached pay dirt on a 75-yard pass from QB DeMarion Johnson. Johnson also hooked up with Corey Stewart on a 35-yard scoring play. Treshaun Lofton added a 3-pt. conversion.

The Indians held a 14-12 lead at the half.

Solano falls on road to Santa Rosa

SANTA ROSA — Two goals in 10 minutes were enough to down the Solano Community College soccer team Friday.

Santa Rosa scored in the 60th minute and the 70th minute to defeat Solano (1-4-1)  2-0.

“It was a very good game,” Falcons coach Jeff Cardinal said. “We played very well.”

Solano kept the game close behind the play of Ashley Yoell and Briana Scholtens in goal. The game was tied 0-0 at halftime before Santa Rosa broke out.

The Falcons close its preseason Tuesday traveling to Consumnes River.
