Prep wrestling: Fairfield’s Martinez takes sixth in VOM

SONOMA — Alberto Martinez of the Fairfield High wrestling team went 6-3 with four pins to finish sixth in the gold bracket of the 120-pound division of the Valley of the Moon Classic at Sonoma Valley High, Friday and Saturday.

Martinez went 5-0 in round-robin competition on Friday to qualify for the gold bracket.

Russell Sales took first in the 145-pound silver bracket, going 6-2 with six pins, one in 12 seconds.

Jesse Martinez placed second in the 160 silver bracket, finishing up 4-4.

Feliciano Dias was fifth in the 132 silver bracket, going 5-4.

In the Crossface Classic JV tournament at St. Patrick’s of Vallejo on Saturday, Robert Carrera (103), Itzia Portales (112) and Dishon Olison (195) each went 2-2 with two pins to finish fourth in their respective divisions.

The Falcons are at Bethel on Wednesday.
