RIO VISTA— Rio Vista High beat East Nicolaus 38-14, Friday.
Ryan Mackey threw three passes for 52 yards with one touchdown. Chace Marlow, Hernan Ruiz and Bryan Peters combined for 298 yards rushing, with five touchdowns. The defense was led by Tyler Gomes, Devin Bettencourt and Dylan Eggers, who snagged an interception.
Rio Vista plays next Friday at Esparto.
Armijo gets by American Canyon, 31-14
FAIRFIELD — The Armijo High junior varsity football team opened its season in style with a 31-14 win over American Canyon.
Elisha Tony ran for three scores, while Kevin Smith ran for anther and added a 90-yard punt return for another touchdown.
Jordan Allen added an interception for the Indians (1-0)
Vikings cruise to 29-15 win over Rams
Vanden 29, Dixon 15: At Fairfield, Devin Woodall ran a fly sweep 70 yards for a touchdown and Anthony Hopson returned a fumble 75 yards for another score to lead the Vikings to a season-opening win at George A. Gammon Field.
Vanden also got a TD on a pass off a fake field goal from Camron Starr to Josiah Taylor, while Dante Bryant added a 60-yard touchdown run. Starr also booted three extra points.
Vikings coach Chris Frederick said he was most pleased with “the fact we stuck in there. Obviously, it was the first game of the season. There were a lot of jitters – from the coaching staff and the players. As a team we stuck with it., grinded it out all four quarters to come out with a ‘W.’ ”
Frederick was also pleased with the play of his defense and its “great defensive stands.”
With the Vanden varsity playing in Idaho next week, the JV team hosts Placer of Auburn on Thursday.
Del Campo 46, Fairfield 0: At Fair Oaks, the shorthanded Falcons (0-1) struggled to get anything going throughout.
Coach Keith Aguilar did give credit to quarterbacks Tramale Hughs and Kyng Tyson for their strong play.
FAIRFIELD— The Solano College volleyball team lost to Sac City (25-17, 25-18, 30-28, 25-20) and Sierra College (25-18, 31-29, 25-27) in the Solano Volleyball Classic, Friday.
Gabby Silva led the Falcons against Sac City with 11 kills and four blocks. Danielle Thelen had 10 kills and three aces, while Hope Grace and Janelle Williams combined for 16 kills. Vanessa Pimental had 21 assists and Keanna Layug had 11 digs.
In the second game, Thelen led the way with eight kills and 19 digs, while Grace had six kills and three aces. Brianna Krystek had four kills and Gabby Silva had four kills with three blocks.
Coach Darla Williams said “It was a great learning experience. These teams are ranked top in Northern California. I want us to play the best to challenge us for conference”.
Mugatash, Roy-Davlia power Fairfield past Armijo
FAIRFIELD — Dalal Mugatash poured four goals and goalie Sara Roy-Davila recorded seven blocks to lead the Fairfield High girls water polo team to a 10-6 nonleague win over visiting Armijo, Thursday.
Itzia Portales added three goals for the Falcons, while Lesley Martinez had two and Vanessa Vo one.
Fairfield also won the junior varsity match 4-2 with Anna Bolgnesi netting two goals, and Anastasia Lockwood and Kamila Losanova one each. Goalie Jordan Hollingsworth had four blocks and one steal.
Fairfield hosts the Fledgling Invitational JV tournament on Saturday.
