Prep girls tennis: Vanden, Benicia match delayed by darkness

FAIRFIELD — The Vanden High girls tennis team battled Benicia to a 3-3 tie before darkness halted the Solano County Athletic Conference match, Tuesday.

The Vikings' Kiwi McDaniel (No. 1) defeated Michelle Li in her singles match 6-1, 4-6, 6-2, while Kendra Black (No. 4) defeated Lindsey Klein in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.

The Panthers won the No. 3, No. five and No. 6 singles matches, while Vanden's Devon Smith and Lyndi Wanlass defeated Adeline Marley and Malagros Esnerode 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.

When play resumes today, Vanden will be looking for a win and a tie in the standings with Benicia.

Armijo 6, Rodriguez 3: The Indians remained unbeaten in 2013 with a Monticello Empire League win over Rodriguez, Monday.

Armijo (7-0, 7-0 MEL) won four of the singles matches and two of the doubles matches, led by Reagan Corley’s 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles.

Betsy Samonte (No. 1) and Hannah Lee (No. 6) won singles matches for the Mustangs, while sisters Natalie Neale and Nicole Neale won at No. 1 doubles for Rodriguez.

Armijo plays at home against Napa Wednesday, while the Mustangs play at Vacaville.
