FAIRFIELD — Kathleen Boholst and Tiffini Mestes rolled to convincing victories at third and fifth singles, respectively, to keep the Armijo High girls tennis team unbeaten in the Monticello Empire League with an 8-1 downing of Vintage, Monday.
“They were very strong,” Armijo coach Greg Davis said of Boholst and Mestes. “Their opponents were hardy players.”
The Indians (10-0, 10-0 MEL) also got victories from Regan Corley, Linh Nguyen and Jasmine Yasir in singles, as well as the doubles teams of Jaimi Garlington and Stephanie Weber at No. 1, Anna Cardoso and Angela Balolong at No. 2, and Itzel Hernandez and Maddie Godinez at No. 3.
Armijo plays Rodriguez at Green Valley Country Club on Wednesday and heads to Vacaville on Thursday. A pair of victories would clinch a tie for the MEL title.
Napa 5, Vacaville 4: At Napa, Vacaville dropped a tough MEL decision to the Indians in which nearly every match was hotly contested. Napa got key three-set wins from Corrine Tsai at No. 2 singles and Saehej Bawa at No. 6.
The Bulldogs got victories from Julia DePonte at No. 1 singles and Kennedy Buriani at No. 4, as well as the doubles teams of Mackenna Smith and Kara Benz at No. 1 and Emily Brown and Bre Castanho at No. 3.
Vacaville entertains Wood on Wednesday.
