RIO VISTA — The Rio Vista High football team rolled to a 42-14 Sierra Delta League win over Encina, Friday night.
Chace Marlowe ran for 113 yards for the Rams (6-1, 2-1 SDL), including two touchdowns, while quarterback completed 3 of six passes, two of which were 26 and 42-yard scoring throws to Chase Hutson.
Rio Vista coach Cliff Malta noted Tyler Gomes was his team’s standout on defense.
The Rams play at San Juan of Citrus Heights next Friday.
Vanden 21 JV, Bethel 14: At Corbus Field, Vallejo, the Vikings came from behind in the final minutes to win their SCAC opener.
After tying the game at 14 with 2 minutes, 22 seconds to play, Vanden recovered an onside kick. Quarterback Stefan Koss led the Vikings through Jaguars territory before scoring from 1 yard out with 36 seconds left to seal the win.
“When the head coach’s heart is beating 100 miles an hour, our freshman quarterback is ‘Joe Smooth,’ ” said Vikings coach Chris Frederick. “Ice runs through his veins.”
Thomas Avant scored on a 25-yard run and Koss also had an 8-yard pass to Josiah Taylor.
The win moved Vanden to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in the SCAC.
Napa JV 23, Rodriguez 7: At Napa, the Mustangs couldn’t hang on to a 7-6 halftime lead.
Michael Winston scored on a 60-yard fumble return for Rodriguez (3-3, 0-1 MEL), with Nick Urena kicking the extra point.
“It was an unbelievable effort,” Mustangs coach Aaron Montes said. “I’ve never been more proud of these guys before.”
Napa improved to 6-0 overall and 1-0 in the MEL.
