BENICIA — The Vanden High boys cross country team ran to a second-place finish in the Solano County Athletic Conference center meet at Community Park, Wednesday.
Jacque Henderson paced the Vikings with a third-place finish, covering the 3-mile course in 17 minutes, 48 seconds, while Caleb Stiles was seventh in 18:57. Vanden’s Justin Alvarez (19:35), Victor Kusaka (19:36) and Logan Jandreau (19:37) were 11th, 12th and 13th, respectively. Benicia’s Nick Strohl won the race in 16:31.
Brenna Gabriel led the Vikings girls squad, finishing ninth in 24.08. Benicia’s Allie Yep won in 20:25.
The Vikings’ Jamarian Johnson was 10th in the boys’ frosh-soph race in 14:28 (2 miles).
Vanden is competing at the Frog Town Invitational in Angels Camp, Saturday.
Fairfield’s Lupe Reyes (26:22) was 18th in the varsity girls race, while Earl Banaag (37th, 24:14) and Angelo Untalan (47th, 29:25) competed for the varsity boys.
Katelyn Cook (fourth, 17:53) was the Falcons’ top frosh-soph girl and Andrew Purcell (12th, 15:19) was Fairfield’s highest placing frosh-soph boy.
Vintage sweeps Rodriguez: At Rockville Hills Park, the Mustangs were close in both defeats, the boys losing 28-29 and the girls 24-31.
Anthony Vogliano was second overall for Rodriguez, finishing in 17:29, followed by Jake Jones (fourth, 17:59), Mitchell Velazquez (fifth, 18:10) and Marcos Moreno (sixth, 18:36).
The Mustangs’ Halle Sullivan won the girls race in 20:07, while Makenzie Alspaw (21:28) was third and Andrea Hernandez (23:12) tied for seventh.
Matt Larsen (16:33) led the Mustangs’ frosh-soph boys with a fourth-place finish, while Alana Ewart (19:37) was fifth for the frosh-soph girls.
Armijo splits with Wood: At Lagoon Valley, the Indians girls team cruised to a 17-41 victory, while the Wildcats boys escapted with a 28-29 win.
The Armijo girls team swept the top three spots, with Gabbi Nathan-Funk leading the way in 20 minutes 20 seconds, Kirah Overman (20:54) and Tiffini Nestas (21:05). Leslie Gutierrez (fifth, 22:53) and Amanpreet Kaur (sixth, 23:04) rounded out the top-five competitors.
Wood's Amanda Darthelmes came in fourth with a 21:17, followed by Katie Tinder (seventh, 23:16), Paige Peck (eighth, 24:06), Victoria Lopez (tenth, 25:23) and Justine Keiffer-Easter (12th, 28:23).
The Wildcats' grabbed the top spot for the boys race as Ajaypal Singh finished in 16:39. Next for Wood were Shaun Krum (third, 17:48), Riley Smith (fourth, 17:51), Scott Dye (eighth, 18:16) and Daniel Aliverado (13th, 19:19).
Armijo's top runner was Rohan Saini (second, 17:32) followed by Andres Rivera (fifth, 18:07), Juan Martinez (sixth, 18:11), Alec Woodson (seventh, 18:12) and Kyle Catapusan (ninth, 18:19).
The Indians' frosh-soph team grabbed the top spots as Soso Amaporu (16:00) for the girls and Evan Turner (12:39) for the boys came in first place. The Wildcats' top runners were Lindsey Gamblin (eighth, 18:42) for the girls and Nate Marsil (fifth, 12:56) for the boys.
Armijo High returns to Lagoon Valley as it races against Vacaville on Wednesday, while Will C. Wood goes against Vintage at Alston Park.
