Prep boys soccer: Vikings shut out Falcons in SCAC play

FAIRFIELD — The Vanden High boys soccer team topped Fairfield 7-0 in Solano County Athletic Conference play on Monday at Vanden School.

The Vikings’ Dallas Mattson scored the first of the team’s seven goals, unassisted, in the third minute of the game.

The second goal came off a penalty kick by Jesus Marquez in the 20th minute.

Two minutes after the break, Domoniq Laird scored, unassisted, on a breakaway and two minutes later, Mattson, assisted by Santino Atanasov, scored his second and the fourth goal of the game.

In the 51st minute, Steward Pimienta scored off a pass from Atanasov.

Eddie Torres, scored his first goal on varsity in the 60th minute, assisted by Pimienta and the final goal came in the 62nd minute from Pimienta, assisted by Riley Pedro.

Antonio Ramirez and Brandon Hurd both played in net for Vanden (7-3-3, 6-2-2 SCAC).

Vanden (8-3-2, 7-2-1) won the JV match 4-1.

Alex Niccoli scored in the 54th minute on a penalty kick. Kwame Akoto scored 56th minute off a rebound.

Cameron Hoover scored on an assist by Juan Espinoza in the 69th minute and Lorenzo Lara scored in the 76th minute off an assist by Brandon Gajeske.

Vanden plays at home against Vallejo Wednesday.

Armijo 8, Rodriguez 1: At Fairfield, the Indians (11-3-1, 7-2-1 MEL) led 4-0 at halftime and never looked back.

The final goal of the first half came from Armijo’s Caesar Rodriguez, and it was his first goal of the season.

Zach Horton opened the second half with his second goal of the season, nine minutes into the second half.

Goal No. 6 came from Brandon Brimer, the Indians’ usual starting goalkeeper.

Brian Galvan also added his first score of the season in the 68th minute.

For Rodriguez, the lone bright spot was a second-half goal by Joshua Emenolom.

Armijo plays again Wednesday at Vacaville.
