FAIRFIELD — Dominiq Laird had a hat trick and an assist within the first 10 minutes and the Vanden High boys soccer team stayed unbeaten by sailing past Fairfield 7-3 at Schaefer Stadium, Monday.
Laird scored in the third, fifth and seventh minutes with Yousef Rezaqui assisting on the first goal and Steward Pimienta on the second with the third unassisted for the Vikings (8-0-0, 5-0-0 Solano County Athletic Conference).
“That was pretty nice,” Vanden coach Roy Darbison said. “They just didn’t touch the ball the first 10 minutes. It was awesome.”
Laird then assisted on a goal by the Rezaqui in the 10th minute and from that point the Falcons played the visitors even.
Fairfield (2-4-1, 2-2-1 SCAC) got on the board in the 39th minute on an unassisted Joshue Merino goal to make it 4-1 at the half.
Vanden rounded out its scoring with goals by Pimienta in the 55th and 66th minutes, the latter assisted by Patrick Dazo, with Dazo scoring off a free kick in the 67th minute.
Fairfield cut it to 4-2 with a goal by Malcolm Tyson off a Merino assist in the 45th minute before Miguel Avila had the last tally by the Falcons off a pass from Merino in the 76th minute.
The Vikings also got strong midfield play from Jared Vitug and on defense from Brandon Gajeske.
Vanden has a key SCAC showdown at Benicia on Wednesday, while Fairfield hosts Bethel.
Vanden JV 4, Fairfield 2: Ray Delgado recorded a hat trick, scoring 40 seconds in as well as in the 13th and 64th minutes. Gabe Zepeda added the other goal for the Vikings (3-2-2, 2-1-2 SCAC) with Joey Mesa assisting on three of the goals.
Fairfield (0-6-0, 0-4-0 SCAC) scored in the 42nd and 69th minutes on goals by Rafael Robles and Tyree Lewis, respectively.
Armijo 4, Rodriguez 0: At Brownlee Field, the Indians (5-4-1, 2-2-1 MEL) scored a pair of goals in each half to down the Mustangs (1-8-0, 0-5-0 MEL).
Armijo started the scoring in the 14th minute when Jonathan Delmendo got an unassisted goal from about 20 yards out.
A header by Oscar Fraire off a pass from Gustavo Ochoa in the 39th minute upped the Indians’ lead to 2-0.
In the 59th minute, Sebastian Bouchet crossed to Jason Less for a goal that made it 3-0.
Armijo rounded out the scoring with an unassisted goal by Bouchet in the 62nd minute.
Hernan Perez earned the shutout in goal for the Indians, who also got solid play from Braden Martinez.
Rodriguez goalie Nathan Kuertz had five saves.
“Definitely credit goes to Rodriguez,” Indians coach Brad Burzynski said. “They’re definitely better than when we played them (earlier). They played very well tonight. You can tell they’re working hard.”
The Indians host Napa on Wednesday, while Rodriguez is at Wood.
Armijo JV 9, Rodriguez 0: Luis Mora of Armijo (6-1-0) scored the only goal of the first half off a corner kick from Eric Solorio. The floodgates then opened in the second half with two goals from Solorio, Mayank Malhorta and Trevor Davis, and one apiece from Juan Duran and Eduardo Gomez.
Derek Wadsworth contributed three assists, while Mitchell Nosbisch had two.
