Pleasant Grove rolls over Fairfield 63-8
FAIRFIELD — Whenever the defending Sac-Joaquin Division 1 champions visit, you can expect it to be a tough night.
Such was the case when Pleasant Grove of Elk Grove defeated the Fairfield High football team 63-8 at Schafer Stadium Friday.
It was the third largest margin of defeat ever for Fairfield and the 63 points allowed tied for sixth in school history.
It took the Eagles just 1 minute, 7 seconds before notching their first touchdown on a Mark Jenkins 4-yard touchdown that capped a 55-yard drive.
Jenkins scored four more times in the first half, all on runs. The other two touchdowns both came on Isiah Saunders runs.
At the half, Pleasant Grove enjoyed a 49-0 lead.
Fairfield showed a little sign of life in the second half as it picked up its first first down of the game on a Cedric Taylor 6-yard run. Fairfield was forced to punt three plays later.
Pleasant Grove scored three plays later on a Brandon Lewis 20-yard run.
In the fourth quarter, the Eagles scored on a 2-yard dive by Kevin Durant to make it 63-0.
There was a bright spot for the Falcons when Keith Williams Jr. connected with Jordan Harris on a 34-yard passing play that avoided the shutout. Williams converted the two-point conversion to make it 63-8.
“We’re playing week to week and staying positive,” Fairfield coach Jack Canavesio said. “We’re going to get back on Monday and get going for next week.”
