NAPA — It was only the winner’s bracket semifinals but the Fairfield Pacific 11- and 12-year-old All-Stars downed Napa American 7-4 in a matchup of major title contenders in the District 53 tournament, Tuesday.
Mason Maes blasted a solo home run, Tanner Fonoti went 3 for 4 and Jordan Chauvin pitched four solid innings to lead the Pacific efforts.
“I think a lot of people pointed to this matchup as teams to beat,” Pacific manager Steve Maes said. (A Napa American team) had rolled through (Tournament of Champions) which was a majority of guys we saw tonight.”
Pacific took the lead for good with three runs in the first inning, two coming on RBI singles by Andres Lara and Jared Hara.
Fonoti upped the lead to 4-0 with a towering home run to left leading off the second.
After Napa got a run in the bottom of the second, Pacific countered with a run in the fourth when Fonoti tripled in Chauvin.
Napa closed the gap to 5-3 with pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, but Pacific answered back with a two in the top of the fifth as Vincent Oriarte and Zach Johnson each singled in runs.
Chauvin went the first four innings, striking out five, with Fonoti going 1 2-3 before Jared Castleman got the final out on a grounder to Brad Williams at second, leaving the bases loaded.
