Mudcats still alive in Auburn Classic

AUBURN — Nick Spini drove in Chad Fortney with one in the ninth inning to give the Solano Mudcats a 4-3 win over the Auburn Wildcats in the Auburn Classic.

Spini finished the game 2 for 4 with two RBIs, Alvaro Rubalcaba was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Mark Foley drove in Solano’s other run, while Nick Perez, Brenden Farney and Hudson Bishop also had hits.

Angel Lara picked up the win in relief of Dylan Nelson. Lara allowed two hits and two runs to allow Auburn to tie the game before Spini won the game in the ninth.

Nelson pitched eight innings, allowing five hits and one run while striking out 10.

The Mudcats face Bercovich Saturday, the team that eliminated the Fairfield Indians 13-11.

The Indians lost to the Spikes 6-5, Thursday night. Timmion Hughes was 3 for 5 for Fairfield, Ian Acosta was 2 for 4. Andrew Wheat, Mark Mills and Joey Moro all drove in runs.
