VACAVILLE — The Solano Mudcats collegiate baseball team scored five times in the fifth inning en route to a 9-1 win over Sacramento at Will C. Wood, Tuesday.
Nick Perez had a two-run double in the decisive inning and Chad Fortney had a run-scoring single.
Nick Spini had three RBIs on the day with three singles.
After dropping a 5-3 decision in the first game, the Solano Mudcats collegiate baseball team salvaged a doubleheader split by downing San Leandro Ports 5-4 in the second game at Will C. Wood High, Sunday.
Mark Foley hit a two-run single that plated Cody Marshall and Joe Murray in the sixth inning to put the Mudcats up to stay in the second game.
Gordie Clary went three scoreless innings to get the victory, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out four.
In the opener, the Mudcats didn’t get on the board until the seventh inning when they picked up all of their runs. Jared Carr took the loss.
The Mudcats host the Sacramento Heat at Will C. Wood on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
Bobby Sox 6U wins district title
FAIRFIELD — The host Fairfield-Suisun Bobby Sox 6-under All-Stars took two of three games from Vacaville last weekend to win a district championship.
Fairfield-Suisun dropped the first game 3-1 before rebounding for 3-0 and 3-2 victories.
The victors received dominating pitching from Mya Evans and Aryanna Banks-Lockhart, outstanding hitting from Gabriella Garcia, Dakota Tinsley, Ysabella Granata, Kylie Roper, Evans and Banks-Lockhart, and solid fielding from Izabella Tisdale-Cisneros, Za’Raya Garcia, Jakenya Howard, Kayla Chrum and LillySue Rants.
With the triumph, Fairfield-Suisun earned a berth in the Bobby National Tournament of Champions to be held in La Mirada July 24-27.
