Mudcats score early, get 7-3 win over South Bay Storm

VACAVILLE — Six runs in the first inning helped lift the Mudcats to a 7-3 victory over the South Bay Storm in collegiate baseball at Will C. Wood, Tuesday.

The Mudcats (26-9) scored in the first on a two-run home run by Nick Perez, a walk by Mike Secrist, an RBI single from Cody Marshall, a walk from Alvaro Rubalcaba and a walk by Matt Smith.

Perez had two RBIs on two hits for the Mudcats.

Drew Chitwood was on the mound for the win, allowing three runs over 7 1-3 innings, striking out two, walking three and scattering eight hits.

The Mudcats scored again in the fourth thanks to a sacrifice-fly by Secrist.

The Storm scored one run in the top of the fourth, fifth and seventh. Chitwood struck out the last batter to end the game.
