Rio Vista loses first football game of season
SACRAMENTO — The Rio Vista High football team suffered its first loss of the season, falling to Bradshaw Christian of Sacramento 42-14 Friday.
Javis Blalock scored both of the Rams’ (4-1) touchdowns from 45 and 56 yards out on runs. Blalock finished the night with 161 yards on nine carries. Tanner Webster pitched in with 99 yards on 11 carries and Charlies Chres ended the game with 57 yards on 14 carries.
Rio Vista hosts Encina next Friday.
Armijo JV 19, Vanden 14: At Vanden, Greg Forkes scored on a 2-yard run with 5 minutes, 10 seconds to play and Jefrie Brown intercepted a pass in the end zone with 41 seconds to go to give the Indians (2-2) a win over the Vikings (0-4).
Jevon Sanford also had scoring runs of 30 and 5 yards for Armijo in the first half.
Vanden, who trailed 13-0 at the break rallied to take a 14-13 lead on a 3-yard run by Jadon Brisenbine and a fumble recovery in the end zone by Isaiah Creal before Forkes’ game-winner.
“The defense came through clutch in the fourth quarter for us,” Armijo coach Willie York said.
Rodriguez JV 43, Monterey Trail 30: At Elk Grove, the Mustangs improved to 2-2 with a win on the road.
Mike Norris scored three times for Rodriguez, twice on runs of 30 and 10 yards, and another on a 65-yard kickoff return.
Quarterback Myles Saunders also three TD passes — all to Aaron Short — that covered 11, 5 and 45 yards for the Mustangs.
JC men’s water polo
FREMONT — The Solano Community College men’s water polo team dropped a pair of games int he Ohlone Tournament on Friday.
The Falcons (0-3) lost to Merced 12-2 before falling to Cabrillo 13-6. Gabe Dizon and Karl Pua did all the scoring for Solano, with Dizon recording six goals in the two games and Pua netting two.
Falcons’ goalie Sean Shadduck recorded 20 saves in the two games.
Solano continues in the tournament today with games against Delta and De Anza.
