Rio Vista gets big football win, improves to 3-0

RIO VISTA — The Rio Vista high football team ran its record to 3-0 Friday night as it ran all over visiting Esparto 38-14.
Javis Blalock did most of the damage for the Rams with seven carries for 142 yards and three touchdowns. Blalock also hauled in a 60-yard TD pass from quarterback Austin Stevens.
Charlie Chris ran the ball 15 times for 70 yards, and Tanner Webster added 14 carries for 94 yards.
Stevens was 3 for 4 for 122 yards and one touchdown.
Rio Vista hosts Brookside Christian next Friday.

Armijo JV 40, Valley 0: At Brownlee Field, the Indians (1-1) grabbed their first win of the season behind two TD runs each by Jevon Sanford and Andre Lewis. Lewis also kicked to PATs.

Treshawn Lofton also scored on a 40-yard run, and quarterback DeMario Johnson hooked up with Tony Terry on a 20-yard scoring pass.

Armijo, who also got a safety from Jeffrey Brown, which was set up by Greg Forkes, plays at Benicia next Friday.

Los Lomas 26 JV, Rodriguez 14: At Walnut Creek, Mikey Norris scored on a 75-yard kickoff return for the Mustangs (0-2), and Aaron Short turned a screen pass from quarterback Myles Saunders into a 65-yard score for Rodriguez.

The Mustangs host Fairfield next Friday.

Wood JV 34, Vanden 15: At Vacaville, Dion Williams Jr. scored twice for the Vikings (0-2), once on a 30-yard run and another on a 50-yard lateral from Jawan Matthews, who was about to be tackled with about a minute remaining. D.J. Muchinson also scored a 2-point conversion on a pass.

Vanden plays at Highlands of Pocatello, Idaho, at the University of Idaho, next Saturday at 2 p.m.

JC women’s soccer

Solano falls in close match to Mt. SAC

— The Solano Community College women’s soccer team lost a close 3-2 match to Mt. San Antonio College on Friday.

The Falcons took a 1-0 lead 10 minutes in on a goal from Carly Mast, assisted by Yedith Martinez. Mt. SAC took a 2-1 lead at the half before the Falcons knotted the score at two on a goal by Corinna Petty. Briana Scholtens was credited with the assist.

Mt. SAC then scored the game winner with 15 minutes to play.

Solano (1-2-1), who got nine saves from goalie Ashley Yoell, plays again Tuesday at home against Modesto JC.
