CUPERTINO — The Solano Community College women’s basketball team downed Cosumnes River 74-71 to take third place in the Mike Gervasoni Memorial Tournament at De Anza College, Monday.

The Falcons (9-4) had to hold on for the victory after leading 38-27 at halftime.

Denisha Lundy led Solano with 25 points – including six 3-pointers – and added two rebounds and two assists. Lundy, who’s  3-pointers were one short of the school record, was named to the all-tournament team.

Nikki Andaya added 12 points, seven assists and three steals for the Falcons, while Taylor Hamilton contributed 12 points, four rebounds, five assists and three steals. Laura Lawson chipped in eight points and four rebounds.

Solano wrapped up its non-conference schedule with the win and will open Bay Valley Conference play at Yuba College, Thursday.

 Prep boys basketball

FAIRFIELD — The Vanden High boys basketball team went into overtime as it won the consolation bracket of the Falcon Holiday Classic, defeating Antelope 57-54.

“It was an up and down game,” said coach Micheal Holloway of the Vikings (6-5).

According to Holloway, Vanden was down five points with a minute and a half left in the game.

DeMarre Walker hit a 3-pointer to get the Vikings within two, and then after an Antelope turnover, Rashad Fisher was able to lay in the basket to tie the game. Vanden could have won in regulation, but missed a layup before the buzzer.

The Vikings only outscored the Titans by three in overtime, but it was enough to hold on for the win.

“Antelope had costly turnovers (in overtime),” said Holloway. “We got control of the glass and had a lot of rebounds in overtime.”

Walker led Vanden in scoring with 19 and was named to the all-tournament team, while Fisher and Ricky Garcia scored nine, apiece.

The Vikings will play at Clovis West in Fresno, Saturday, at 5:30 p.m.

Rodriguez 68, San Rafael 56: At Rodriguez, the Mustangs (11-1) got 25 points from Rishod Abraham in the non-league victory.

The Mustangs trailed 19-16 after the opening quarter and the game was tied at 28 at halftime.

Amani Reed added 14 points for Rodriguez and Keanu Williams scored 13.

Rodriguez plays at Benicia, Saturday.

Prep girls basketball

ANTIOCH — The Vanden High girls basketball team came away with the West Coast Jamboree Diamond Division title after it routed Narbonne of Harbor City 62-28, Monday.

The Vikings (10-2) were up 18-5 at the end of the first quarter and stretched out the lead to 36-13 by the half.

“I’m extremely proud of the defensive effort,” said Vanden coach Allison Johnson. “We defended well and just went at them”.

Kayla Blair led the Vikings with 17 points and was named to the all-tournament team. Brittney Livingston had 13 points, while Kiana Moore had seven. Aleseana Whitney was one point away from a double-double as she grabbed 10 rebounds and scored nine points. Julia Blackshell-Fair was also named to the all-tournament team.

Chantell Greer was named the tournament MVP as she had eight points and 15 boards in the game.

Vanden is off until Saturday when travel to Fresno to play against Clovis West.
