NAPA — Julia Blackshell-Fair scored 10 of her team-high 17 points in the second quarter as the Vanden High girls basketball team defeated Napa 59-48, Wednesday.
After holding 9-7 lead in the first quarter, the Vikings (11-3) outscored the Indians 20-12 in the second to lift them to a 29-19 lead at the half. Aleseana Whitney scored six of her nine points in the second.
Kiana Moore was Vanden’s second-highest scorer with 14 points, while Kayla Blair had nine.
The Vikings open defense of their Solano County Athletic Conference championship as they travel to Benicia, Jan. 16.

Kennedy lifts Buckingham to win in league opener
VACAVILLE — Phil Kennedy hit a 3-pointer at the end of regulation and then another as time expired in overtime to lift the Buckingham Charter boys basketball team to a 67-66 Sacramento Metro Athletic League win over Faith Christian, Tuesday.
Kennedy finished with 21 points, as did Chandler Stone, who also had seven rebounds. David Jones added 12 points and six assists for the Knights (7-5, 1-0 SMAL), who play Sacramento Adventist, Thursday.
Vikings suffer defeat to Panthers
BENICIA — The Vanden High wrestling team suffered a 69-4 Solano County Athletic Conference loss to Benicia, Wednesday.
Daniel Rembarger picked up the Vikings’ lone win, a 13-3 major decision at 106 pounds. Brandon Dontogan had the next closest match at 192 pounds, losing 7-4.
The Vikings host American Canyon next Wednesday.
