VALLEJO — The Rodriguez High girls basketball team dropped a 51-30 nonleague game against Bethel, Tuesday night.
The Mustangs (2-4) were led by Destiny Greenwood and Jannessa Boling, who each scored six points. Greenwood added four rebounds, two steals and one block, while Boling chipped in four steals, two assists and two rebounds.
Rodriguez’s JV team defeated the Jaguars 55-26 behind 15 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal from Catlin Parrish. Skylar Briscoe added 14 points, two assists and a steal for the Mustangs.
The varsity team will be back in action, Thursday, against Moreau Catholic of Hayward in the first round of the Piedmont Lady Classic.
Armijo falls to Benicia
FAIRFIELD — The Armijo High boys basketball team managed just four points in the first quarter and never caught up in falling 53-42 to Benicia in a nonleague game at E. Gary Vaughn Gymnasium, Monday.
“We were within six late in the fourth, maybe with 3 1/2 minutes to go,” Indians coach Carly Perales said. “We kind of struggled offensively all night. We were hanging in, but down the stretch we had to do that whole foul game. We were doing a decent job of fouling, we just couldn’t score.”
Bryce Lumpkins led Armijo (0-3) with 12 points, while Tyree Carrie added 11.
Pleasant Grove JV 51, Fairfield 50, OT: At Fairfield, the Falcons (1-3) held the lead until surrendering two free throws with 9 seconds left in overtime and couldn’t get off a shot in falling to the Eagles. The score was tied at 43 at the end of regulation.
Terrell Russell led Fairfield with 14 points, while Cameron Ross-Reed added 11.
