Vanden High volleyball team outlasts Vacaville
VACAVILLE — Even after losing two players to minor injuries, the Vanden High volleyball team outlasted Vacaville 25-21, 20-25, 25-14, 18-25, 15-8 in a Sac-Joaquin Section Foundation match, Tuesday.
Sophomore setter Annalyse Silva was 17 of 19 on serves with four aces, three kills, 11 dig and 26 assists. She served the final four points of the match.
Kamra Jackson was 15 of 18 with an ace, 18 kills one block and eight digs, while Meghan Herout was 11 of 11 with 11 kills, one block and 17 digs.
Vanden hosts Vacaville on Monday.
American Canyon 3, Armijo 0: At Fairfield, the Falcons dropped their foundation game 25-14, 25-16, 25-22.
Jessica Pamatian and Seghen Woldai each had two kills, while Brittney Saechao's added three aces, four assists and three digs. Mari Nelson chipped-in two blocks.
The Indians are 0-1 and will host Vanden on Thursday at 3:45 p.m.
VCS 3, Bethel 0: At Vacaville, the Falcons won 25-18, 25-12, 25-21 as Ari Bio had seven kills, Lauren Gottschall had seven kills and six blocks.
Brittney Hockersmith had 13 assists and Hailey Kenyon had five kills and nine blocks.
The Falcon's next game is Thursday at 5 p.m. against Cosumnes Oaks.

Vikings open season by blanking Bulldogs
VACAVILLE — The Vanden High girls tennis team opened its season in style by winning every set en route to a 9-0 nonleague victory over Vacaville, Tuesday.
Kiwi McDaniel had the closest call, downing Logan Dosker 7-6 (4), 6-2 at No. 1 singles.
Jaleena Hust and Kylie Walker in singles and the No. 3 doubles team of Devon Smith and Kami Weber each won 6-0, 6-0.
“We played well I think Vacaville’s going through a rebuilding process. They lost a ton of seniors. . . . They’re struggling, but always nice to come in and play well.”
The Vikings open Solano County Athletic Conference play by hosting American Canyon on Thursday.
Prep boys soccer
VCS pulls out victory over Delta
CLARKSBURG — The Vacaville Christian boys soccer came out with a 4-2 win over Delta High, Tuesday.
Matt Burnett scored the first goal on an assist from Andrew Grabowski, who would later score in the first half, putting Vacaville Christian up 2-1.
Grabowski scored again in the 67th minute, and Sean Patton scored in the 80th. Delta would score one last time in the 85th.
Vacaville Christian out-shot Delta 28-8 and were “very persistent,” said coach Paolo Mikelionkis. Goalie Stephen Gloudeman finished the night with five saves, all coming in the second half.
The Falcons play again at 6 p.m. on the Sept. 17 at American Canyon.
