Strong second half not enough for Falcons
FAIRFIELD — A strong second-half push wasn’t enough to save the Fairfield High JV football team as the Falcons fell 47-18 to visiting Pioneer.
Fairfield (0-2) took an early lead when Kyng Tyson returned the opening kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown, but the Patriots kept the Falcons quiet until the third quarter, when Tyson scored on an eight-yard run.
In the fourth quarter Isaiah Minter scored on a three-yard pass from Tramale Hughs.
“The second half they decided to get a little fight in them,” said Fairfield coach Keith Aguilar. “They didn’t like getting pushed around.”
Fairfield visits Rodriguez next week.
Encinal 36, Rodriguez 0: At Alameda, the Mustangs were shut out for the second straight week, falling to the host Jets in Alameda.
“It just wasn’t in the cards,” said head coach Aaron Montes. “We need a spark – a score – and I guarantee it’ll turn.”
The loss drops Rodriguez to 0-2 on the year.
Davis 46, Armijo 6: At Fairfield, the Blue Devils held the Indians to Divontay Liberea’s 82-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
The loss drops Armijo to 1-1.
