Prep boys basketball

MODESTO — Jordan Collier poured in 16 points and Demarre Walker added 15 as the Vanden High boys basketball team rolled past Modesto High for a 77-51 nonleague win at Modesto Christian Saturday.

A 20-6 second quarter put the game away early for the Vikings (12-8), who led 39-26 at the break.

Joey Kusbiski scored 14 for Vanden, Jaimon Robinson added 13 points and Brandon Davis scored 11.

Vanden returns to Solano County Athletic Conference action Tuesday when it hosts American Canyon.

Prep girls basketball

Vanden girls roll past Weston Ranch

MODESTO — The Vanden High girls basketball team made quick work of Weston Ranch Saturday at Modesto Christian, coming away with a 76-38 nonleague victory.

Adrianna Jones led the Vikings (16-3) with 19 points, including five 3-pointers. Mariah Williams added 17 points along with 10 rebounds and five steals.

Chantell Greer had 10 points and five steals, while Toni Taylor dished out six assists and made five steals to go with five points.

Vanden heads to City College of San Francisco on Monday to face Amador Valley.

Prep Wilton Christian 44, Buckingham 40: At Galt, the Knights (4-9) fell on the road late Friday night.

Jasmine Coutee led BHS with 14 points and added eight rebounds and two steals, while teammate Ashley Brooks scored seven points and also had eight rebounds.

The Knights are back in action Tuesday at home against Sac Adventist.

Prep wrestling

The Armijo High wrestling team had grapplers in two different places Saturday, meeting with varying levels of success.

At the Lindhurst tournament, Amini Kapapa took second place at 160 pounds, going 3-1. Toeta Elise (220 pounds) also finished second at 3-1.

Damian Simpson (147) went 3-1 and was third, while Joseph Liwag (106) was fifth place at 3-2, and Michael Williams (140) went 3-2 and finished sixth.

At the Tim Brown Memorial tournament at Foothill High, Armijo’s Kris Elkin went 3-2 overall for a top-12 finish at 220 pounds. Darius Levan finished 4-2 at 108 pounds.

The Indians return home for a Wednesday Monticello Empire League match against Vintage.
