FAIRFIELD — It was senior day for the Vanden High girls tennis team and the Vikings responded as they only dropped a total of four total games in a 9-0 Solano County Athletic Conference win over Fairfield High, Thursday.
“It was possibly the last home match ever (for the seniors), so they wanted to have their best outing,” said Coach Stan Lewis.
The Vikings did so as singles players Jaleena Hust (No. 2), Kendrah Black (No. 4), Gabriella Arca (No. 5) and Keily Walker (No. 6) all won 6-0, 6-0, as did doubles players Krystal Fogata-Hailie Sheppard (No. 1) and Breanna Thomas-Devon Smith (No. 2).
Kiwi McDaniel (No. 1, singles) played well, defeating Dasha Paz 6-0, 6-2, while Ericka Rumbaoa (No. 3, singles) and Kami Weber and Isabella Dombrowski (No. 3 doubles) only lost one game each.
Lewis said his players “played really well and had a really good (regular) season,” with Vanden finishing 13-3 overall and 12-3 in SCAC play.
McDaniel, Hust and Rumbaoa will be playing in a singles tournament, Wednesday, with Lewis saying “they have a really good chance of doing well.”
